One for All – Challenges in Creating a Corporate Product Safety Process

Wednesday 03/10/21 from 11:45 am - 12:15 pm Due to the publication of the VDA book ‘Product Integrity’ OEMs as well as suppliers are faced with new challenges connected to safety and conformity. Today’s products comprise different technologies in various combinations. To ensure a safe product, risks arising from any of these technologies must be considered. The topics of functional, electrical, mechanical, chemical safety and cyber security are to be addressed in every project, in every location, all over the world. Thus, it is mandatory to have a corporate Product Safety process. Hella supplies a wide range of products: from pure mechanical products to products with complex interplays of different safety aspects. To cope with interferences of different technologies, various domains must work together on a common safety concept. The process needs to be suitable for all variants of products, while being as lean as possible, to allow efficient development. It needs to consider all affected domains and cover activities from a first effort estimation to the final release. In this presentation, we share our experience in the creation of such a Product Safety Process. We explain the general concept and show how the interplay of different domains is organized.

Dr. Simone Hamerla - Product Safety Assessor (HELLA)

KGaA, she now works as a Product Safety Assessor. Within the scope of this work, she develops processes and methods for product safety.
